Last Weekend in Wellington

I'm going to leave Wellington on Tuesday for a 2 month trip around the South Island, so this was my last Weekend in Wellington for some time now.

It started with Friday, where I worked for a Catering company at the WorldofWearableartsAwards, was good fun, met a lot of nice people, stand behind Helen Clark, while she gave an interview. Didn't see Noreen and the girls, even though they were there as well.
After work, Sam and Sarah picked me up and we went to a party, kind of Neon-80ties theme.
Lot of fun, met a lot of old friends there.

Saturday we went to support the Phoenix, Wellingtons A-league football team. a 2:2 draw, but still a very entertaining game, it the team only exist since a few months, therefore the fanbase is not as you'd expect it to be, but already pretty good.

I even knew a few players, as some of them used to play in Germany or Euro Clubs.

Sundays Walk, the longest I did so far, about 4h up and down the hills. very cross country like, but really good!
I dunno yet, how often I'll be able to go online on the South Island, but I hope to post every now and then, so keep checking the blog.

Surf's up

I finally sorted out a few pictures from Sam surfing the other day. He's the one in the black wetsuit with the blue sleeves. The pictures with more people are from Lyall Bay, the pictures with Sam alone from Houton Bay.

Back in Wellington

Here are the first pictures from my first week back in Wellington.
The Rugby World Cup in France, started this week, so I watch a few of the late night and early morning games, but most of them during the day in a replay, I just try avoiding to read the score in the morning paper...

Wales vs. Canada, not a particular good game...
I personally think it's way to cold to surf, but the waves were pretty good and so I operated the camera while Sam surfed.

A few impressions from Lyall and Hounton bay.
This week was a pretty interesting free screening and discussion of Maori Short films, not a lot of people there, but it was actually really nice...

The Silverfernball over Civicsquare, where the Art gallery and the screening was.

Sarah, Sam, Dyk, Noreen and me at the Holy Cow in Kelburn, very nice evening.

the obligatory Sunday walk, this time Mt. Kaukau, very windy, very foggy, but good fun.

Some mornings I just spent chilling in the sun, in the gardens.

Well not a lot of Photos this week, but I spent a lot of time, trying to organise a job, Noreen helped me a lot, so I now work temporary for a Catering company, my first job, the wearable arts show is on Friday the 21.

A cloudy day in Wellington.

On this Sunday we did a walk just outside Kelburn., up a Hill in Thorndon, even though the day was very cloudy, it stayed dry and I got a few really good shots of Wellington city.
Luckily we started walking just at 2pm, I spent all night watching the All Blacks smashing Italy in the World Cup, so I needed the morning to catch up with sleep…

Last week on the Farm

My last week on the farm started with a train ride from Wellington at 6 in the Morning, nobody else was on the train, apart from me and a French guy, Charles, my fellow wwoofer for the next week. He did a lot of farms before and so had a lot of stories to tell!
Some how at times he seemed a bit desperate in face of the work he had to do on the farm, he said that his other wwoofs weren’t as hard, but I think he coped quite alright in the end.
We were doing a lot of different things, and had a lot of fun, eventhough the work was really hard this week, and the weather at some stage just wasn’t suitable for the work, it rained really badly a couple of times.
Our main work included Lavender this week, cleaning the Lavender from cuttings, ripping our the old or ill ones, and weeding the plants.

Apart from that we picked Lemons

and cleaned the meadow on the other side of the river, Thomas was in town while we were doing that, and told us not to loose a little piece in the machine we were using, of course Charles lost exactly that piece in the high grass, what resulted in us searching the whole are, ripping out the grass by hand, coping with unusual big spiders, and finally resulting in me finding the piece after 2 hours searching, when it already began getting dark and all Charles was saying only was merde for the last 2 hours… He already wanted stop searching after 5 min. Sissy!

Thomas carrying Charles over the River, me finding the piece and the spider.
Of course I had to look after the calf, which already grew a lot.

A normal amount of stuff we collect on a day of work.

The foundation of a old hut, we digged out.

Jade enjoying her joyride on the trailer.

This cow, jumped the fence and started running around on the lavender field, before it jumped back over the fence.

We had half a day off, while Thomas was working in Levin, so we played a few games of pool.

Charles and me playing pool, I lost almost every game…I suck at pool.

Finally Thomas gave me a lift to Wellington. I enjoyed my time on the farm, even though the work was hard, but it was a good experience and a very different one. I gave a interview for the Otago student magazine, when I got a copy of that I’ll post it online. This will certainly not be the last time I did wwoofing!
