Weekend

This weekend was pretty packed, here a few photos from skating, a party and of course Sunday's walk.
Sam and Toby (Sarah's bro) let me take a couple of photos of them while they went skating.

Saturday was Burnsie's 21st, he rented the whole downstairs of Wellington's Jet Bar, party including speeches, 2 Dollar drinks and heaps of people I knew, back from Coll.

This weeks walk was with a slightly smaller party, as Jane had her duathlon in the morning, Noreen was on duty and David just came back from Chile. We went round the Karori Wildlife Sanctuary, didn't see any Kiwis or Tuataras, but a windmill.

The Windmill, Dyk and Ingmar trying out their tripods.

After the walk we all met at the Dyk and Noreen's house for dinner.

Dyk and David playing boyscout and talking probably about plants of some sort...

The Morris Gentlemen in Brooklyn

This morning the Morris dancers went to Brooklyn, some kind of fair there.
Got a few good pictures of them in action. For everyone who's wondering what those men in white are doing, it's sort of a English folklore dance, but just google it or look it up on wikipedia, I'm sure there's more about the origin and different styles...

My first international football match

After the really disappointing Eurocup performance from England yesterday, I thought I might post something slightly more positive in the world of football. My first International match.
New Zealand vs Vanuatu in Wellington. After NZ winning over Vanuatu the other day (2:1), this time it was on home soil (as a big part of the NZ players staring for the Phoenix anyway).
The crowed was an outstanding 2500 supporters:

left side of the stadium, right side of the stadium.
You could even spot a few single All White jerseys...not a huge support base, really.

The Game was good, 2:0 in the first half and another 3 goals in the second. Despite the low numbers of the supporters, they entertained the whole stadium, by coming up with new chants, (most of them slightly adopted from the Pheonix) but also by reacting on off field action like a lazy steward that was aim of the chants for the entire second half...)
My personal favorite was after New Zealand was referred to on the scoreboard as TAW (Thaiairways All Whites) the crowd sang: "We are Taiwan...", after somebody realized their mistake and changed the scoreboard to NZL in the second half, they sang: "We're not Taiwan anymore.."

Anyway a very good performance by the All Whites, and I'm sure in a form like that, they could actually have a chance to play in the world cup 2010.

Jen being silly!

Matiu Island

Here we go, pictures from Matiu Island, situated in the harbour of Wellington, I'm pretty sure, there will be a lot more info on Dyks blog, so I'm keeping it short. Nice trivia though, in World War I and II they "imprisoned" people with German and Austrian, later Italian heritage there. Some of them being so patriotic that they made their own WWI Austrian uniforms and celebrated the Kaisers birthday, nice photos in the islands visitors center...
Well, here are my photos:

And the Seagulls, who seem to be the main inhabitants of the Island.

Afterwards we checked out two of the art galleries down at the waterfront, all in all a really nice day!
